The Spark: A Journey Born from Chaos
Ever had a gig fall through because the venue double-booked? Or spent hours emailing promoters, only to hear nothing back?
Ever had to chase artists to get their bio, photos, social networks links, and other details, so you can correctly promote an event? Making sure they bring the right equipment and are aware of the event details?
If you've been part of the music or event industry, you know the frustration all too well. I certainly did.
My name is Franck Martin, and my journey in music and event organization spans over eight years—from hosting open mic nights to organizing events, from experimenting with modular synthesizers to managing artist bookings. And it's from this journey, filled with both triumphs and frustrations, that BookerPal was born.
Why BookerPal? The Problem We Solve
The music and event industry is vibrant, creative, and full of talent. But it's also fragmented, inefficient, and often frustrating. Artists struggle to find performance opportunities, bookers struggle to discover the right talent, and event organizers juggle spreadsheets, emails, and last-minute cancellations. The lack of a centralized, transparent system means missed opportunities, wasted time, and lost revenue.
I've lived this reality firsthand. As a co-host and organizer of Resident Electronic Monthly, a monthly open mic event in San Francisco, I saw how difficult it was to manage artist lineups and coordinate with venues. My involvement in helping launch Sonic Circuit open mic in San Jose and organizing events at the renowned Gray Area creative space further exposed the gaps in the system. And my experience leading the Modular California Vibes project—a four-day, solar-powered music creation adventure—showcased the power of collaboration but also the challenges of artist management.
The Journey: From Frustration to Innovation
My background is as diverse as the music I create. Born and raised in France, with over 20 years in Fiji and now based in San Francisco, I've traveled the Pacific Islands and beyond, absorbing a rich tapestry of sounds and cultures. This multicultural experience fuels my experimental approach to music, using modular synthesizers and quadraphonic sound to create immersive, cinematic journeys.
But my passion extends beyond music creation. I've always believed in building communities and creating opportunities for artists. That's why I co-founded Resident Electronic Monthly and Socnic Circuit open mic—events that provided platforms for emerging talent and fostered a sense of belonging in the electronic music scene. Organizing events at Gray Area and launching Modular California Vibes allowed me to bridge the gap between artists and experimental venues, creating spaces where creativity thrives.
Yet, despite the success of these events, the process of booking artists remained cumbersome. The industry's reliance on scattered spreadsheets, endless email chains, and opaque communication channels created unnecessary friction. Artists often found themselves struggling to get noticed, while venues struggled to find the right fit for their events. The system was broken, and I knew there had to be a better way.
